Diehard Gingey followers will remember when I used to do a Gingey’s Discoveries post every month. It’s been a while but I thought I’d bring them back, albeit in a looser format!

This month I’ve tasted and experienced a few exciting things which I’d like to share so, here we are with a sunshine-filled June roundup. ☀️

Waste Not Juices

I was sent some Waste Not juices to try last week. Not only are they delish (especially the strawberry, apple, cucumber and mint), they’re also made with all natural, not quite perfect ingredients – or, as Hugh F-W would say ‘wonky veg’. The juices are freshly cold pressed and are both vegetarian and vegan-friendly. They come in a range of tasty flavours and each bottle is one of your five a day! Bingo!

Pasta Evangelists

Do you ever succumb to Instagram’s advertising? I don’t usually but after seeing endless pictures of stunning pasta from Pasta Evangelists, I gave in and ordered a couple of boxes to try for myself. Pasta Evangelists deliver restaurant quality, homemade, fresh pasta with sauces and garnishes, straight to your door. Sounds great right?

This is one of the pricier food delivery companies I’ve tried. Although I had a voucher for £10 off, two meals for two cost just over £20. The boxes arrived well packaged and insulated against the heat but once opened they didn’t look quite as perfect as they do on the pictures. Not to worry, it’s all in the taste right?

Yep.. it really is. Last night we had the beef & truffle tortelloni with sage butter & taralli crumb. It was ready within 10 minutes and it was bloody beautiful. Rich, meaty and with a depth of flavour I’ve not experienced outside of really great Italian restaurants. A total indulgence but worth it for a Friday night treat.

Yakinori Restaurant, Park Street Bristol.

Last week I headed down to Park Street in Bristol for a Sushi Hangout with a couple of other bloggers in the city. We were at Yakinori, a brightly coloured Japanese place which opened probably about a year ago. Despite walking past it hundreds of times, I have to admit I’ve never been.

We were there to eat sushi and you know what? It was bloody good. We enjoyed a temaki making demonstration from their chef and sampled a whole range of sushi, from inari to temaki, nigiri and uramaki. Honestly, it was delicious and I’m already planning a return trip with Dave in tow. Sushi is hard to come by in Bristol and if the rest of the menu is as good as this, I’m sure we’ll soon become Yakinori regulars.

A Nifty Plastic-Free Tip

We’ve started doing something when we go to our local supermarket. I usually write a shopping list on a bit of old paper and now, when we buy veg, we try to buy it loose rather than pre-packaged. This is part of a wider push we’re having at home to cut down on waste and plastic use generally (which I’ll write about soon). So.… here’s what we’ve been doing.

Buying vegetables loose rather than in plastic packaging.

We weigh the veg, print the labels and stick them onto the back of the shopping list. The veg sits in the bottom of the trolley and once at the checkout, the stickers are scanned and the fruit and veg can go straight into one of our shopping bags from home. Saving the planet, one plastic veggie bag at a time!
