How terrible is this weather! It seems to me that the snow stops being fun as soon as you start working full time. Pulling the curtains open to that snowy white scene on a weekday fills me with dread these days. I work around 25 miles away from home with a choice of two routes – countryside or city centre! On Friday it took me 4 & 1/2 hours to travel home, usually, it would take 50 mins. Leicester just cannot cope, everyone goes into meltdown! By the time I got home I wanted nothing more than the sofa, my PJ’s, wine and a takeaway.
We opted for Spice Cube in Mountsorrel. Two reasons, 1. they are very close to us so we didn’t feel too bad asking them to deliver, 2. their food is great! The Spice Cube won the 2012 Loughborough Curry Festival and their small restaurant is always busy so booking is essential if you want to eat in. With the lovely Hussein at the helm, they re doing everything right to win the title again this year. Fresh ingredients, reasonable prices and a nice choice of ‘chef specials’ lifts them above the average Indian restaurant.
We ordered:
● Lamb tikka masala
● Chicken tikka korai
● Mushroom fried rice
● Keema naan
● 4 poppadoms & pickles

The total cost was £19.50 and the food arrived within 35 mins, hot and well packed up against the cold. Personally, I always go for the tikka option for the meat element in my meal, it just enhances the flavour for me. I went for chicken tikka korai, which I have a lot. The meat was tender and the big pieces of soft onion were really good too. The sauce was thick, medium spiced with a slight char grill flavour from the tikka. The free onion bhajis were delicious too, not greasy or floury as you sometimes find. I must ask Hussein if they’re made on site.
If you’re looking for a great Indian in the Loughborough area, look no further. They deliver to the surrounding villages and you can pay by card over the phone too if you’re out of cash. If you want to eat in and don’t drive, they are on the main road through Mountsorrel so just jump on the 126 or 127 bus from Loughborough or Leicester and it’ll drop you there.
I can’t express my love for this place enough. It’s a family favourite for us and I thought it was about time I shared it with you!
