This jin jjambbong is a brilliant instant ramen. The depth of flavour is really surprising and very delicious. In fact, I think this could be a contender for a perfect base ramen for a really nice bowl of seafood ramen with actual seafood and additional ingredients thrown in. I’m going to try that and will report back soon! The noodles are some of the best I’ve ever had from a freeze dried packet noodle. Yes, really!!! They had good bite, were chewy and quite thick, definitely not your bog standard variety.
Jjambbong refers to a type of Korean stew, made with gochugaru and seafood and I think that this jin jjambbong instant ramen replicates it pretty well in terms of a rich, spicy seafood broth and depth of flavour. It’s really pretty impressive for a packet ramen. This is perhaps down to the seasoning sachets which are a little more advanced than you’d usually see. Firstly, the dehydrated flakes actually includes small pieces of prawn as well as the usual green onion and cabbage. What’s more? It plumps up well in the boiling broth and tastes really good.
The main flavour sachet is liquid rather than powder, which I think is usually a sign of a better quality noodle. Finally, the sesame hot oil which goes on right at the end just adds another dimension to the bowl. Really great.

Buy again? YES!
We bought these jin jjambong noodles from Oriental Mart and they cost 89p at time of writing which is quite frankly a bargain! I’ve seen them on sale elsewhere too, including Amazon and in asian supermarkets around Bristol. Go get some now!
