Breakfast at The Bristolian, Stokes Croft, Bristol

The Bristolian Cafe Frontage

I found the best place in Bristol for breakfast.

Around a month ago my sister Eden and her boyfriend Scott came to Bristol for a visit. Scott used to live here so they were visiting friends and then we met up on Sunday for a lazy afternoon brunching and catching up. The weather was meant to be good (before the rainy season hit us!) so I wanted somewhere with outside seating.

After some twitter research, I settled on The Bristolian. I’d walked past it several times already as is just a few mins walk from my flat and it looked good so I crossed all my fingers that we’d get a table – as you can’t book – and luck would have it, we did!

Inside, the place is bright and colourful with rickety tables of various sizes and cushioned window seats looking onto a little courtyard at the front. In a way, it reminded me a bit of the Orange tree in Leicester if you’ve ever been. Lots of bright yellow and sunshine shades. They sell all sorts of cafe items – cake, sandwiches, salads, soup etc.. but we were there for one thing – breakfast

The breakfast menu is great – covering your classics like full English through to waffles, eggs and muesli.  Eden and Scott both went for The Bristolian – eggs, toast, smoked bacon, sausage, beans, garlicky spinach tomatoes and crispy potatoes. Priced at £7.95. I went for The Bristolian Fusion – similar to the breakfast above but with chorizo in place of sausages, black pudding and bacon, and a spicy tomato salad and minty yoghurt in place of beans and flat bread in place of toast. Also £7.95.

The Bristolian cook everything fresh on site and only use locally sourced and free range meat and eggs. They also use locally sourced coffee and although I’m not sure whose, it’s very tasty! The food was delicious, we ate up every last mouthful. For me, the garlicky spinach was a real winner and the eggs were cooked to perfection.

Could this be Bristol’s best breakfast? I think so!
