Ottogi Sesame Ramen

This is the first in what I expect will be a long running series on the blog! My Noodle Reviewooodle – a Gingey guide to instant noodles. Bookmark this page now for future viewing!!

As many of you will know, I am a big fan of instant ramen and noodles. They’re fast, they’re delicious, comforting, and the choice is endless. You only have to walk into an Asian supermarket to see the vast range available! These reviews will be short and sweet and I’ll score each bowl out of 30.  I’ve eaten so many that it seems daft not to collect them into one place to help you find the best there is.

I’ll score every pack out of 30 with up to 10 points available for each of the following factors:

  • Flavour
  • Texture
  • Ease of making

I’ll also share how much I paid and where I got them from. So, without further ado – let’s get started with my first review.

Ottogi sesame ramen

Ottogi is one of the biggest food brands in South Korea and they sell everything from sauces and seasonings to ramen, soups and even pizza! This is their sesame flavour instant ramen. The packet includes an egg block which melts into the water to give a slightly creamy texture. There is also a packet of sesame flavour powder and a sachet of hot sesame oil.

This ottogi sesame ramen was a tasty bowl but nothing special despite the label calling it ‘premium’.  It was quite peppery in flavour (tasted like white pepper perhaps) with a slight spice kick and a strong sesame flavour. The noodles were soft – I’d perhaps like a little more springiness but that’s not always possible with instant noodles like this. There were some dehydrated bits of spring onion but other than that, the powder was just the flavouring.

Like most instant ramen, this was very easy to make – simply add the noodles, egg block and flavour sachet to 500ml boiling water, cook for 4 minutes, add the sesame oil and eat.

Scores on the doors:

  • Flavour – 7/10
  • Texture – 5/10
  • Ease of making – 8/10

Total: 20/30
