.Update April 2020:
Oscar & Rosie’s are no longer at Das Kino. You can find them in their own place at: 8 Stoney St, Nottingham NG1 1LP.
After a shocking amount of time since they opened, I’ve finally got my self into gear and been for pizza at Das Kino, the newish ping pong bar in Nottingham’s lace market. Achingly cool and already full at 6:30pm on a Tuesday evening, we headed straight to the bar for a couple of beers before sitting down for the main event – Oscar & Rosie’s pizza.

Oscar & Rosie’s produce the most fantastic artisan pizzas you can imagine. Having managed to chat quickly with Olly, one half of the operation, I discovered that Oscar and Rosie’s (named after Olly and his other half’s cats) have been operating as a pop up for almost 2 years now. They move between venues and have been at Das Kino since it opened around 9 months ago.

The pizzas are pretty big so we opted to share one with a couple of sides. The menu has plenty of choice with classic combos but also some quirky, interesting stuff too. The Frenchman features goats cheese and roasted beetroot on a rocket and basil pesto base and The Checkpoint has butternut squash, cumin and streaky bacon on it. We opted for the rather funky Boom Chicken Wah Wah and we made a great choice. Free range baked chicken with smoky streaked bacon and mushrooms on a base of Rosie’s  BBQ sauce in place of the usual tomato base. The whole thing was delicious and worked SO well.

I was impressed by the use of alternative base toppings throughout the menu, it’s easy to mix up the toppings but Oscar & Rosie’s have put thought into not only how the toppings taste together but how they fit with the base flavour of the pizza. Clever peeps.

We also had some of the home made coleslaw and it was lovely, fresh and zingy. It reminded me of my mums recipe, in that the onions, carrots & cabbage weren’t drowning in mayo or heavy creamy sauce. There are plenty of other side options to explore if coleslaw isn’t your thing. Check out the menu here.

There isn’t too much more to say so I’m keeping this review brief. The pizza is excellent. I implore you to go and try it. The bar is cool and funky, a great place for first dates, groups of mates and everything in between. Go onto their website and try to book a ping pong table too. Book ahead, it was well booked up when I tried! A big shout out to the manager Adam, he’s a great guy and clearly doing a fantastic job. Oh one last tip – if you love gin as much as I do, go on a Tuesday and don’t drive. They do two premium gin and mixers for £6.50. I’ll be back!!

*We didn’t pay for our meal but as always my opinions are my own – I’d have bloody loved Oscar & Rosie’s pizza whether it was free or not!*
