For a cheap packet, these Lucky Me Pancit Canton instant noodles were hella impressive. I paid 50p for them and wasn’t expecting great things. I’ll be honest! This are the first Filipino noodles I’ve tried in my Noodle Reviewooodle quest but they won’t be the last, I’m definitely keen to try the others in this range. Pancit Canton is a filipino staple, introduced there by the Chinese and means a fast fried noodle dish.
Chow mein flavour
These are chow mein flavour and come with three seasoning packets. A thick fat-based stock loaded with flavours of garlic, onion and sesame. Soy sauce and a really tasty dry mix. The dry mix was loaded with chilli as well as MSG which as we know, gives great flavour and isn’t the big bad wolf everything things it is. We really need to change the narrative on that.
Here’s a little something to educate if you’re still misguided:
Cooking the noodles
Unlike some other noodles I’ve had, the Pancit Canton instant noodles are served dry and you mix the seasoning in after cooking.
- Boil the noodles as usual (3-4 mins in a pan of water).
- Mix the fat-based stock, soy and dry mix together in a bowl – or in my case, on a plate!
- Add the cooked, drained noodles, stir them through.
- Voila! Dinner is served.
In terms of ease, this was great – very fast and very little mess. Plus, I reckon you could cook the noodles in a microwave or with a kettle meaning these are a good option for the office.
Lucky Me!
What a great snack! These Pancit Canton hot chilli chow mein noodles are TASTY! They’re not a looker but hey, who cares when they’re so tasty! These are definitely closer to the realm of supernoodles than other instant noodles I’ve tried and the price point reflects that too as they’re so cheap. I reckon you could easily jazz them up with a fried egg, or maybe some bacon or chicken but honestly, for lunch or a snack, they’re pretty damn good.

I’ve really enjoyed all the lucky me noodles we’ve had – I’m only sorry the portion size isn’t a bit larger…
I’ve always wondered, given that these blocks of noodles seem to be all the same, but the flavouring packs are different… Why don’t they just sell the flavouring packs? Some of these noodles are not cheap!
We really do need to change the narrative on MSG! It’s great stuff, used in moderation. I bought 200g o it or only €1.60 from my local Chinese store. Nice! 🙂
And it has around a third of sodium than salt! Don’t fear the MSG folks.
