spicyAs you know, I’m partial to a packet of noodles with Korean Shin Ramyun right up there at the top. I find that Asian instant noodles are just so much better than UK / American equivalents like super noodles and pot noodles. I don’t know what it is, they’re just tastier and more satisfying. They also make a great cheap and easy lunch.
For each instant noodle we try, I’m reviewing it with a score out of 30 for taste, texture and ease of making. Today, we’ve got the JML spicy chicken noodle pot. We’ve been working our way through the JML brand of noodles for office lunches. The spicy ones are definitely the best!
Our thoughts:
This was tasty but in comparison to some of the other spicy noodle pots, we felt it had something lacking. It had the kick of heat and slight mouth tingle from the Szechuan pepper you’d expect but the stock itself was a bit less complex and less interesting than the beef and pork cups and so, I’ve scored it lower on flavour.
Also, on first mouthful there was a distinct aftertaste of supermarket roast chicken crisps. This soon disappeared but it really made the flavour feel quite artificial, which is ironic seeing as the chicken flavour is in fact, artificial! But you get what I’m saying right?
These noodle cups are easy to make, and really portable. This makes them good contenders for lunch breaks at work. All you need is access to boiling water and something to cover your shirt from splatters! This spicy chicken noodle pot had three sachets – flavoured semi solid oil/fat, chicken seasoning powder and hot chilli for that kick.

186 Oriental on Park Street in Bristol is one of the better Asian supermarkets in the city and they have a HUGE wall full of noodle cups.
