COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

As you probably know if you’ve been following my blog for a while, Abergavenny Food Festival is a firm annual favourite on the Gingey Bites calendar – in fact it inspired At the Sauce the food podcast I produce and host with my friend Karis. We both love the sense of community, the talks, the workshops, the stalls, the vibes. Put simply, it’s the very best food festival I’ve ever been to and believe me, I’ve been to a few!

This year, it falls on the weekend of the 21st-22nd September and looks to be bigger than ever! Started in 1999, Abergavenny Food Festival was the brain child of two local farmers. They set it up in response to the BSE crisis and the resulting lack of consumer confidence in British produce. With the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in 2001, the difficulties worsened for farmers and pushed the Festival forward in terms of showcasing the wonderful food the Abergavenny area has to offer as well as the passion of the people who produce it. Now, the festival attracts more than 30,000 visitors and has top name chefs and award winning aswell as generating millions for the local economy.

From chef demos to talks, masterclasses, workshops and market-style shopping, there is more than enough to fill two days and still come away having not see everything. I recommend comfortable shoes, big shopping bags and a hearty breakfast to keep you going!

  3. Would love to win tickets as it isn’t too far from me and I want to sample the best of British produce. Think we should all buy more local produce when we can, less food miles.
