Like most of you out there, I occasionally get a massive burger craving. It comes on so strong that nothing else will do. At home in Leicester, I was spoilt for good independent burger joints with Meatcure and Crafty topping the list for me. Now that I’m in Bristol, it’s mission time – I am on the hunt for somewhere to meet my burger demands!
Cue Three Brothers Burgers. The best I’ve found so far. Find them on Welsh Back in the city centre, just along from Brewdog on the river. Immediately, they win brownie points for being ON A BOAT!
We went there on a midweek night with my old uni friend who was in town for work and actually, we almost fell upon it by chance. By day the restaurant is much less visible than at night when it’s all lit up so beautifully! The menu is short and focused. You can have burgers and dogs, I think I spied a couple of salads too but who’s going to order those? Their burgers are also all made in house, using 28 day aged Herefordshire beef which is nice to know.
Where do I start?
I’m embarrassed to say that the one massive burger in the pictures here was actually mine. My eyes grew bigger than my belly and I had to have it in all its double burger, sweet cured bacon and American cheese glory. Chloe and Dave went for the Sweet Chilli Chicken Burger and the Blues Brothers Burger smothered in caramelised onions and dropping with Alex James from Blur’s ‘Blue Monday’ cheese. Mine is called the Three Brothers Mega Burger – a complete whopper!!
We also ordered Chilli Cheese Fries – loaded with Monterey Jack cheese, slow cooked brisket beef chilli, jalapenos and sour cream. The Coleslaw which was really good and Deep Fried Pickles with Ranch Dip. Quite a feast!
The food was all delicious and the portions were so generous that we struggled to finish everything. I have to admit that despite my best efforts, Dave ended up eating the majority of my burger. The beef pattys were full of flavour and cooked well and Chloe’s chicken burger was juicy and cooked perfectly. The brioche buns were soft and squishy which is exactly how they should be. I want squishy mess when I’m eating burgers – that’s part of their appeal surely?
In terms of a favourite, Dave’s choice with the blue cheese was probably the one I’ll order next time. There’s something very special about blue cheese and beef. However, for pure gluttony, mine won the day. I mean come on.. bacon, cheese, burger TWICE? What’s not to love?
I’ve not had fried pickles before and Chloe and I absolutely loved them. The batter was relatively light so once you’d bitten through the crispy edge, the hot salty pickle hit your mouth. The ranch dressing was perfect along side this and I also used it to did my chips.
The chilli cheese fries weren’t quite what I was expecting although this is more to do with my not reading the menu properly. I was expecting more cheese kind of melted across the top. That said, they were really good and the chilli was great – smoky, spicy and salty.
Did I love Three Brothers Burgers? Yes but… I will definitely return. It was great food and really good value for money. As burger joints go, my heart is still firmly back in Leicester, floating somewhere between Meatcure and Crafty.

How have I not heard of Three Brothers Burgers before? Looks INSANELY good! May I suggest a visit to Meat Liquor if you're still on the hunt for burgers (you can never have enough, in my opinion). I reckon they do the best burgers in Bristol – soft squishy brioche buns (you're right, nothing else will do), juicy beef and the bessssst bacon. I am keen to try out this place, however – the blue cheese burger is calling my name!

Last weekend we ate a Burger King (shhh) on a long car journey and it reaffirmed my correct view on indie burger joints versus fast food outlets. Burgers are GREAT and this didn't cost much more than those awful motorway specimens!
It's so good, you have to go Naomi! Thanks for the Meat Liquor tip – I literally live two mins away but haven't been to the Bristol one yet. My sister swears by their chicken wings so I guess I ought to go and see what all the fuss is about!

You should head to the Green Man in Kingsdown for a Bear Gryllz burger! Best I've had in Bristol (although I'm yet to try 3 Brothers)
I feel 3 Bros has the best chicken burger in bris, however if you want other burger options try Chomp and Grillstock they are both great as well.
