Deli 58, Loughborough

There is a new deli in town. It’s small but I’m fairly sure it’s perfectly formed.  The ladies behind The Deli at Fifty-Eight in Loughborough have made my day, opening literally across the road from work and very close to my house.

Their product selection is thoughtful, featuring lots of brands I recognise from the BBC Good Food show bursary winners. And also many local artisan brands. Their cheeses come from the Fine Cheese Co who I absolutely love and they are planning to sell homemade soup once the autumn winter kicks in, as well as freshly made cobs, pies and of course, cheeses and charcuterie.

I popped in on their first day to have a look and get some lunch. I had a gorgeous wholemeal cob with black bomber cheddar and hand carved ham with a dollop of ploughmans chutney (posh branston pickle to you and me). There were still a few bits left to sort – their charcuterie hadn’t arrived for example, but I can see that once they’ve settled in, this place is going to have queues out the door!

I’ll finish with a picture of these delicious homemade cookies. There were two huge jars right at eye level and by the till (clever). So, even if you’re not hungry for lunch, and don’t need to top up on your artisan chutneys or biscuits for cheese, you have to at least pop in for one of these yummy (and slightly naughty) bad boys!
